Palin's Praise for Bin Laden Op Avoids Obama

ABC News' Clayton Sandell reports from Lakewood, Colo.:

Sarah Palin gave passing praise to President Obama's "decisive leadership" in the operation to kill Osama bin Laden, though in a speech here Monday night the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate did not once use Obama's name.

"We want to thank our president," Palin said, but then she quickly shifted focus to the previous administration for having laid the groundwork.

"We thank President Bush for having made the right calls to set up this victory," Palin told a cheering crowd.

Later, Palin seemed to give President Obama credit for what she called a "tactical victory."

"The decision to insert American units in areas to hunt down and to kill bin Laden is an example of the needed decisive leadership that our troops deserve," Palin said, calling it a "proper use of force to protect America."

Palin's words were a departure from last year, when she called President Obama's approach to terrorism "fatally flawed" after the arrest of a Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas day 2009.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is accused of trying to ignite explosives in his underwear on a plane with 290 people aboard.

After Abdulmutallab's arrest, Palin criticized Obama for charging him as a criminal defendant rather than treating him as an enemy combatant.

Palin wrote on her Facebook page that Obama needed to "recognize that the real nature of the terrorist threat requires a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor."

In her speech Palin also questioned whether Pakistani leaders were helping to hide bin Laden.

"How was the most wanted man in the world able to avoid detection, living in comfort, in a mysterious super compound in plain sight?" Palin asked.

"We must demand that anyone who cooperated in hiding bin Laden be brought to justice," she said.

While not addressing Palin specifically, Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari dismisses such claims in a Washington Post Op Ed article.

"Such baseless speculation may make exciting cable news, but it doesn?t reflect fact. Pakistan had as much reason to despise al-Qaeda as any nation," Zardari said.

Palin spoke tonight to an overflow crowd of about 1,300 people gathered inside and outside a gymnasium on the campus of Colorado Christian University in Lakewood. The event was a fundraiser for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, an organization that offers support to military families.

During her speech Palin praised members of the Navy SEAL teams that carried out the mission against bin Laden.

"Their courage and determination brought us justice, especially justice for the victims of 9-11," Palin said.

Palin shared the stage with retired Lt. Gen. William Boykin, known for making controversial remarks about Islam and casting the War on Terror as a religious fight. He later apologized and retired in 2007. As recently as 2009 Boykin reportedly said that there is "no greater threat to America than Islam."

Palin was not available to answer questions from reporters and did not address whether she might run for president during her speech.

What was Palin doing with Gen. Boykin? And what were the attending Republicans doing with him as well? Boykin is the fool who Bush put in charge of Afghanistan early on.. the idiot who started going on and on about the Holy Crusade and how he was going to kill all the satanists. Have Palin and Republicans lost their minds or is the likes of Boykin what they support?

What a bitter, petty woman.

She's pathetic!

Palin is disgusting.

Palin is like the addict and the media is her co-dependent. She doesn't do anything but stir up chaos and negativity,

Why do you cover her when she does nothing but criticize the mainstream media? That's why opinion of the media is low. Let her pay for her own advertising.

She's doing what they're all doing. It's almost campaign season.

It seems that Sarah Palin is all over the map. One time she will say one thing and later, she will say something totally contradictory. Imagine having someone this inconsistent as our President and Commander-in-Chief. She's bitter, prejudice, uneducated, and really sickning to listen to. Anyone who listens to her must be totally crazy. I though Rush Limbaugh was off-the-hook mentally but Palin is worse.

Give us a break and stop covering her every move - no one cares what comes out of this idiots mouth!!

You go Sarah. We love you.

When asked about bin Laden on March 2, 2002 - a mere 6 months after the 9/11 attacks, President Bush replied "I don't know where he is. I really just don't spend that much time on him, to be honest with you."

The only thing the Bush administration laid was an egg. And I'm being polite.

Sarah who ??

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

What in hell was Palin doing at ground zero? what does she actually know about military operations? I pity innocent American women especially those few women who sees dumb Palin as their hero, I guess those who still refused to turn their clock around will definitely fall into the abyss with Sara Palin's stupidity.

Sarah Palin should just "shut up and drive!"
We don't need to hear her comments.
Pistol Packin Palin should stand up and give the President credit for directing the Navy Seals to take Bin Laden Out! It wasn't done by Bush or Clinton either. In his first term Presudent O got the job done. He is the President and he gets the credit. "Victory has many fathers defeat is an orphan," wrote JFK. He was right in 1961 and his words ring true today.

Why are moderators on this forum deleting comments about Palin?
..I guess its a waste of time to even read any posting here since you guys decides which one is allowed or not.

I can only hope that nitwit Palin wins the Republican nomination with buffoon Trump as her running mate. That would guarantee a second term for our superb President Obama. Can you imagine either Palin or Trump making the articulate, thoughtful and balanced decisions that our President has made in the last few months? Or delivering the exemplary speech regarding the demise of Bin Laden that our President gave last night? Nope, neither can I.

This woman is a disgrace to our country. She claims to be a christian, If she is a christian I'm the Pope~~~ just saying.

Posted by: Chlotine | May 3, 2011 1:28:08 AM

Is there ANY surprise? Palin, Boehner, and the rest refuse to give Obama any credit. Typical. I wish they would all just go somewhere. I have never seen so much disrespect for a president. At least George W. Bush is respecting Obama enough to not critique him in public. Enough Already! Conservatives are not always right! Liberals are not always right. Can't we agree to disagree without always making it personal?

Idesign: How can you say that Sarah rocks. She broke a promise to a few hundred thousand citizens of Alaska. She left them so that she could make millions of dollars off of a stupid book and hit the TV circuit. She wants the attention and that was the only way she knew how. She broke her promise of the oath of office and made millions doing so. So if she ever happened to end up being elected President (God forbid) would she leave office and break her promise to 308 million people so she could write another book. You Betcha!!!!!!

This woman. What a character.
