Three Cups Of Tea Party For Romney

 Previous | Main

ABC News' Amy Walter reports:

One of the big questions for 2012: which Republican will win the affection of Tea Party voters. While ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann are the most closely identified with the Tea Party cause, the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that it's ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney who does best among voters who identify as Tea Party supporters.

In a head to head match-up against President Barack Obama, seventy percent of those who say they are Tea Party supporters say they'll vote for Romney compared to 61 percent for Palin and 60 percent for Bachmann. Ex-Gov. Mike Huckabee narrowly trails Romney, taking 69 percent of the Tea Party vote.

According to the poll, 37 percent of these Tea Party supporters say they are Republicans, 11 percent identify as Democrats and 47 percent identify as independents. But, when independents are asked to pick which party they lean toward, the Tea Party universe looks a whole lot more Republican. With leaners, 68 percent of these self-identified Tea Party supporters say they are Republicans, 21 percent are Democrats and 11 percent are independents.

Among those who identify as ?strongly supportive? of the Tea Party movement, Trump is the most popular, but Romney is also well-liked. Of this group, 79 percent of said they?d support Trump over President Obama compared to 78 percent for Palin, 77 percent for Huckabee and 76 percent for Romney.

Romney also runs strongest among those who identify themselves as Republican, taking 85 percent of the GOP vote against President Obama. The candidate who does the worst among Republicans? ?The Donald? who takes just 68 percent of the Republican vote.

ABC polls are unreliably all over the map.

FOOTBALL - That is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw that headline. Well, it's actually what you and I (and the author, and editors, and everyone who heard about the Three Cups of Tea story) KNOW.

WAY TO GO, ABC!! At least you are shameless about it!!

I certainly don't consider myself a "fringe" person... I sympathize with Tea Party ideals (i.e. Less Government, Less taxes, and more independence) but I abhor some of the actions that this group took in 2010 elections... Their Mob Like Mentality cost us DE, NV and CO and to some extent AK.... Without their Mob like action Mitch McConnel would be controlling the Legislative agenda instead of Harry Reid...

In my book Romney is clearly the most qualified for President on both sides of the aisle... He'll get my contributions and support.

I like the way those on the Left say that Obama is unbeatable because of a weak GOP field. What is weak about Mitt Romney? He was a Governor and CEO of Staples and has amassed a fortune through his business activities. He is a good family man. Is anybody going to tell me that Mitt Romney cannot reside in the White House, the same as Obama.Sarah Palin and Senator DeMint are strong, experienced politicians as well.At any rate a President mostly has a great number of advisors to assist.

I would say that right now, Mitt is the front runner. He is the best choice of those in contention.

LOL...LOl...Why in the world would anyone with a brain care at all what candidate this minority of extremist americans would vote for in the GOP Primary? I'm telling you. Their "aura of negativity, fear and myopicness" will destroy them...just like Palin has done to herself. Educated moderates and independents don't want any part of that thinking.

Romney isn't a good candidate, he is aGREAT candidate. I will vote for obama, pretty much guarrenteed, UNLESS Romney runs. Now, that is not something I have been able to say about a republicans candidat for office in over 20 years!!!! If Republicans had a brain, a sliver of a brain, or even, just want to fake like they have a brain, they would run Romney. He is the ONLY ONE WHO CAN BEAT OBAMA and for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I wouldn't care which candidate won!!!!! I would actually be happy with either! Can you imagine???????

LOL!.... Congratulations Mitt! All the "loonies" admire you...

...not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing....LOL!

I'd rather see Ron Paul run than anyone else. Too bad he's so overlooked by the mainstream media, when the things he's been warning about for years are happening now, spot-on.

We will never vote in a Mormon. Never. If you want a candidate write him in to send a message.
