Cracks in the Facade

As a postscript to Philip Weiss's piece, I noticed a change in media tone yesterday that made me blink thrice at the screen to make sure I was watching the channel I thought I was.

And I was. On Fox News yesterday afternoon, words of praise were being heaped on Al-Jazeera for its coverage of the demonstrations in Egypt.

I remember when Al-Jazeera was simply the evil anti-American media arm of Islamic terrorism, something easy to recall since my memory is able to reach back all the way to last Friday.

And yet here were kind words being expressed by one of Fox News's "media watchers" over Al Jazeera's Egyptian coverage, as viewed on its live Internet feed, since God forbid we let the English-language channel on our precious cable systems.

But maybe that too will change--finally!
