Hundreds of schools in England are applying to become academies. Where are they?

Some 1,070 academies are now open. The figure was just 704 in June, but a spate of schools turned into academies this month, during the summer holidays.
Academies are schools which are independent of their local authority, can be sponsored (although they don't have to be) and can control their own budgets. Although they can be any type of school, they tend to be secondaries.
In London and its surrounding area, there are 57 new academies as of this month, Birmingham has an extra 13 and Manchester has another five. The further north you go, the fewer academies there appear to be.
Devon and Linconshire rank top for the highest number of open academies with 30 in each.
So, where are England's academies? The map below from the Department for Education (DFE) official data site shows the spread across the country, with Kent the biggest authority for open academies.
The full data, up to August, 2011, is below. What can you do with it?
