How Did We Get Stuck With Piers Morgan?

That was the plaintive cry I raised in the April issue of Vanity Fair in a column titled "It's Morgan in America," regarding CNN's bumptious replacement for Larry King.

Many questions torment America in its dark night of the soul, questions more urgently pressing, and yet it must be asked: How did we get stuck with Piers Morgan? Who is he, why is he here, is he returnable?

Morgan's response to the last query was rather rude and he tweeted numerous unflattering mentions of me, but let's put that aside and pay attention to the larger issue, to wit: Piers is in a piss storm of woe over the phone hacking scandal that may make CNN wish they could fold him into an airmail envelope and mail him back to whence he came. From the Guardian UK:

Phone hacking also rife under Piers Morgan at Mirror, claims ex-reporter

Oh dear. Perhaps it's all an innocent misunderstanding, but it appears many more worms will be emerging from the woodwork before this clusterphuck has run its course. If we can't send him back to Britain, is there someplace else we can send him?
