The Territorial Army still has much to offer

It is here that I must declare my hand: I was/am the last commanding officer of 10 PARA. It was an organisation that gave outstanding value for money and was the battalion that sent more men on operational tours with regular battalions, and not necessarily to the Parachute Regiment, than any other. Notwithstanding this, it was disbanded by the 1998 review, in spite of a very hard fought campaign to explain why its retention simply made sound operational and financial sense. The process that took place is a good illustration of the flawed decision-making at the time, because either that decision was flawed or the current one is.
